The ITP Stripping the Cost seminar

Now, more than ever, the imperative for service provider to run their operations leanly and efficiently is focusing attention on the cost of the network. With complex, new services and bundles coming to market and high bandwidth applications such as video requiring ever-increasing bandwidth, networks must be optimised and new business models need to be developed and also deeply understood.

Session 1: Optimising the fixed line business case

Although BT is now poised to make the massive investment in fibre-to-the-home (FTTH), plenty of question marks remain as to the potential for profit from such a proposition. Headline projects such as this, as well as the continued operations of existing networks, are under growing pressure to cut the cost of operations and more closely tie network provision to customer demand and the business case.

Complex new services and bundles coming to market and high bandwidth applications like video which requires ever-increasing capacity, mean that networks have to be optimised and new business models developed and better understood.

Session 2: Network Sharing

With Vodafone and Telefónica announcing plans to share networks across Europe, wireless operators are demonstrating that they have clearly understood the need to strip cost out of their network operations. New traffic demands placed on networks by the provision of dongles, the iPhone - and other smartphones - and the application ecosystems springing up around them means that it has never been more critical that spectrum is utilised efficiently and network assets are used to their utmost
