Chav! It's a musical innit
“Chav! It’s a Musical Innit” will be Crowded Logic’s first outside show, performing at this year's Edinburgh Fringe festival in August. Following the lives of three teenagers living in a run down town on the outskirts of the tube map Chav! explores the issues of teenage culture, the rise and rise of the British National Party and how the two groups feed from each other.
This hilarious, satirical comedy, following in the footsteps of The Producers, really brings home its points within the working didactic of larger than life characters revealing their true selves; the antagonistic teenage contingent disclosing ambitions, fears and dreams of a better life, and the belligerent members of the “bona fide” political party expose their secret hatred, greed and fears of change all through the power of song!
Entirely devised by the cast, Chav! It’s a Musical Innit brings current issues to the stage, asking you to think about how you percieve the world whilst having a good time and finding yourself humming the tunes on your way home! Chav! It's A Musical Innit was first performed on 2nd November 2006 as part of The Contemporary Theatre Cabaret in The Corbett Theatre, Loughton, Essex Original Music and Lyrics by Jason Blackwater and Darren Godbold with support from Colin Sell. The underlying message here
The underlying message here is... vote! Apathy in a democracy is the best friend of extremism and fringe politics can end up having a "legitimised" voice as they take advantage of this apathy.
Political parties such as the British National Party, the BNP, are widely regarded as a racist and bigoted party and at least one TV documentary on British TV has shown there is a Nazi-style underside to them, despite the presentation of them by their website and the honeyed words of Nick Griffin, their leader.
Wikipedia's entry for them says:
"According to its constitution, the BNP is "committed to stemming and reversing the tide of non-white immigration and to restoring, by legal changes, negotiation and consent the overwhelmingly white makeup of the British population that existed in Britain prior to 1948."[12] The BNP proposes "firm but voluntary incentives for immigrants and their descendants to return home."[13] It advocates the repeal of all anti-discrimination legislation, and restricts party membership to "indigenous British ethnic groups deriving from the class of ‘Indigenous Caucasian’".[12]"
In recent years they have gained a toe hold in the political landscape and have a handful of local seats.
Free speech is one thing, racial hatred is another. Most people don't want to be associated with such views, but unfortunately some are seduced.
