Gallery 435: Guerilla Art

Category:
Date: Wed, 25 July, 2007
Author: Neil Fairbrother

Gallery 435 is an art gallery with a difference: it doesn’t actually exist. Everyone knows where the Tate Modern is - not so gallery 435 as it doesn’t have a permanent home. Instead Gallery 435 specialises in blitzkrieg or guerilla art exhibitions - taking over unused spaces for temporary exhibitions that feature the best and most challenging work from local, national and international artists.

The most recent show “Random!” featured a collection of mixed media installations ranging from the Iraq war, roadkill, a charity shop in a wardrobe, a piece which breaks faith and religion down into a game, and a surreal room with a turf carpet, chairs that can’t be sat on and a feature many Brits are becoming all too familiar with - a bank of CCTV cameras.

The artists are Alison Andrews, Richard Vidler, Imogen Welch, Doug Jones and Helen Philpot, and our host is the energetic Zoe Hatch.
